Waterman Grille

4 Richmond Square | Providence RI 02906

Last Saturday I traveled with my son, his fiancé and her mother to Providence, Rhode Island to scope out venues for their 2016 wedding! As mother of the groom, I was excited about the opportunity to be part of the planning and decision process, but also to dine at one of the restaurants that was under consideration for the “big day!” After a long day of traveling from one location to the other, including their mall, Providence Place (there’s no tax on clothing, btw), I was hungry and anxious to get to the Waterman Grille, which was the last stop.

As of this posting the wedding venue decision is still being decided, but I must say that my dinner was simply delicious and well worth a return drive up I-95 in the spring or summer time to further explore the city and dine once again! The setting was quite cozy with a roaring fireplace, and due to the season, it was very festive. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, including the nightly specials, and was able to expound on both the dinner and drink menu.

I had:

The slow braised short ribs, served with smoked Gouda croquette, asparagus soubise, wilted arugula with a braising jus.

They had:

Maine family farms grass-fed burger and lobster grilled cheese

While I can’t speak for the taste of the food of my family, my short ribs were delectable – they were deboned and certainly didn’t require the use of the large steak knife that was provided. The jus on the short rib just added to the intensity of the flavor that was already developed through the braising process. With each forkful, I was able to experience the short rib, croquette and asparagus soubise...it was delicious and I was well pleased. If you’re in the area, please make a point of dining at Waterman Grille – reservations are recommended.
